Scarface and Carlito's Way have a lot of things in common. Take a look:

People Scarface (1983) Carlito's Way (1993)
Brian De Palma Director Director
Martin Bregman Producer Producer
Louis A. Stroller Executive Producer Executive Producer
Al Pacino Tony Montana Carlito Brigante
Al Israel Hector (guy with chainsaw) Rolando
Ángel Salazar Chi Chi Walberto
Caesar Cordova Cook (taco stand) Barber
Michael P. Moran Nick the Pig Party guest

Writer/Judge Edwin Torres wrote two books about Carlito Brigante: "Carlito's Way" and "After Hours". The movie is based on the second book. But it took the first book's title to avoid confusion with the Martin Scorcese's directed movie of the same name (After Hours, 1985).

Now the prequel, Carlito's Way: Rise to Power, is based on the first book ("Carlito's Way").

Pacino's disco club in "Carlito's Way" and the taco stand he worked in "Scarface" have the same name: El Paraiso.

Brian De Palma wanted to shoot the climax of the film at the World Trade Center in New York but it was the target of a bombing, and he had to shoot it in "another railway station again." - De Palma's The Untouchables also featured a scene at a railway station.

He seems to love this kind of place. Besides Carlito's Way and The Untouchables, his The Bonfire of The Vanities, Blow Out and Mission: Impossible (as far back as I can remember) also use trains or subway elements.

Sean Penn (one of his best performances as David Kleinfeld) just accepted to work in the film because he wanted the money to direct his own movie: The Crossing Guard.

Rick Aviles (photo), who played Quisqueya, died of AIDS in 1995, March 17th.
